We’re excited to welcome our New Intergenerational Program Manager, Stephenie Hou!
Hi everyone,
My name is Stephenie Hou and I am the new Intergenerational Program Manager at Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly. I am incredibly excited to be part of the LBFE team, manage the City Sites program and start building relationships with community partners, volunteers, elders and students in the programs offered here! I graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2014 with a Bachelors in Social Work. After graduating, I served two years as an AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellow with the Old Colony YMCA Big Sister Big Brother Program in Brockton. At the OCY, I worked with high school youth grades 8-12 on professional development, leadership and volunteerism skills as well as recruited mentors and mentees for their mentoring programs. After leaving AmeriCorps, I became a Bilingual SCO Case Manager at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services where I provided resources, supports and coordinated in-home services for older adults to help them live independently.
My “dream job” has always been to plan intergenerational programs involving both youth and elders in a community setting. Therefore, my background in youth development and elder care have prepared me for this role. This is something I am very passionate about because I genuinely enjoy spending time with and learning from, my grandparents and younger cousins. When I first heard the term “intergenerational programming” in college and saw organizations that are already out there successfully doing this work, I knew it was something I needed to be a part of. I was a case manager for almost two years and have now received an opportunity to pursue my “dream job” as Intergenerational Program Manager at LBFE. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am really looking forward to working with you all in the years to come!
Best,
Stephenie
