Hunter Buss, Boston College PULSE Team Leader

Hello everyone! My name is Hunter Buss and I’m excited to be a part of LBFE! I am originally from the Chinatown/South Loop neighborhood in Chicago, IL, but right now I am a student at Boston College. I am currently a sophomore in the Carroll School of Management concentrating in Finance and I have been liking it so far!

PULSE is a six-credit class at Boston College that explores both philosophy and theology through in-class readings and discussions, as well as a year-long commitment to serving at a location in the community. When I heard in my PULSE class that I had the opportunity to work with elders, I was immediately interested in joining LBFE. I personally have very fond memories with my grandparents, and I wish I had been old enough to be able to talk to them about their lives and experiences. At LBFE, I hope I can be a friend to many elders and bring the community closer together, sharing experiences and learning a lot from one another.

At Boston College, I am proud to be a part of the only all-male a cappella group on campus – The Heightsmen. I hope that I am able to bring my group to perform at least once during my time at LBFE and that we can bring some joy to people. I also love to play basketball, soccer, and table tennis when I can. In addition, I am very involved in both the Korean and Chinese Student Associations on campus. I believe it is important to be in touch with your roots and culture, as well as to continue broadening your worldviews, so I got involved as early as I could. In addition to English, I can speak a fair amount of Mandarin and have begun to study the Korean language. I understand that knowing another language is a valuable skill to have, and I am blessed that I am able to help communicate with elders whose first language is
not English. At LBFE, I am looking forward to growing in my understanding of different people’s background and discovering new viewpoint from people who are different than myself. I hope that this experience will help prepare me post-graduation for a world that is filled with
people who have vastly different backgrounds that me and help me become more self-aware.

Don’t forget to check out next week’s blog to see who will be highlighted then!
