Each year LBFE Boston connects Boston's college students with hundreds of older adults living in public and affordable housing. Generations enjoy social, digital literacy, and creative arts classes together and share life experiences and skills.

Connect with us

Reflecting on this amazing #GIW24 - one of our favorite moments was at our first-ever Multi-Gen Mix & Mingle. Guests participated in hands-on activity building a Community Tree where everyone, including #olderadults from nearby #fenway 334 Mass Ave., Kenmore Abbey, and St. Cecilia's House, were invited to share their thoughts on a leaf added to build our tree:

1) if someone asked you why #intergenerational programs are important, what would you say? or
2) What motivates you to keep coming back to our programs or what’s been you’re favorite part of programs?

The responses show how ESSENTIAL #socialconnection is between generations. For ALL to grow and age in health, we must continue to celebrate in moments like this and provide programs to do so!

"I like making friends with young people. It makes me younger."
"I love this moment."
"Learning different perspectives from all different walks of life."
"Mutual understanding, respect, and support."
"Inherit the virtue of respecting and loving the elderly."
"Be happy."
"Learning new things."
"We cannot have a future without learning from our history."

As we wrap up an impactful Global #intergenerational Week, we wanted to share this powerful story produced by Elena Eberwein GBH News who joined our multi-generational mix and mingle last week.

It captures the heart of the LBFE Boston community so well and exactly why Intergenerational connections, practice & friendships are ESSENTIAL for ALL, and one of the keys to preventing social isolation.

Day 7 -Let's Build Intergenerational Workplaces -@LBFE Boston - Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is a great example of a multi-generational workplace...from student volunteers & part and full-time workers in our late teens and early twenties, to staff in between and decades older...we all have something to contribute to this organization, and we learn from one another every day!

How can intergenerational collaboration improve the workplace? How have you fostered this at your own organization?
