What We Do

Since 1979 LBFE Boston's nonprofit mission has been to help relieve isolation and loneliness among our older neighbors. By connecting residents of affordable & public housing with local college students, we facilitate lasting intergenerational friendships through weekly social, educational, creative, and technology programs.

LBFE Boston - Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly

We love this reminder from instructor, Ellice Patterson's (also Executive Director of Abilities Dance) at a recent Creative Connections class at Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) Grove Hall Community Center / 51 Geneva Ave when it comes to movement & dance:

'We meet you where your body is at.'

Dancing is an activity that’s easily modified, helps us connect with other people, reduces stress, increases mobility, and gives the brain a workout! Abilities Dance's mission is to disrupt antiquated, ableist beliefs and disseminate the value of inclusion through dance.

Thank you for partnering with LBFE Boston - Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly, Ellice!

Great post from our community partner, Boston Senior Home Care. Thank you for sharing! We partnered with LBFE Boston - Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly to bring free art instruction to our Lower Mills Apartment residents! LBFE’s Creative Connections program is funded by Age Strong and taught by Haitian-born artist, Mimi Desir of In Sight Art Gallery .

Mimi enjoys working with older adults and views art as a therapeutic experience “One bad thought can ruin their day,” she explained. “Art lets them express their emotions and thoughts, which is good for their minds. But, the social connection keeps them coming to class.”

A special thanks to Age Strong, LBFE Boston - Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly, and our supportive housing team for bringing the program to residents at Lower Mills!

Diversity, equity, and inclusivity are core values that run through the fabric of LBFE and into our community work, not simply a checkmark on a to-do list.
