Since 1979 we have built inclusive communities that span generations and cultures to prevent and relieve isolation and loneliness.
Since 1979 LBFE Boston's nonprofit mission has been to help relieve isolation and loneliness among our older neighbors. By connecting residents of affordable & public housing with local college students, we facilitate lasting intergenerational friendships through weekly social, educational, creative, and technology programs.
This is what intergenerational friendships are all about! Creating connections, community & joyful days with one another!

#facetofacefriday This week, meet Rosemary McAndrew who joined LBFE as a Director in 2019 after volunteering for more than 15 years. She brings experience serving in various board positions of professional, commercial, and non-profit organizations. Her interest in LBFE is an extension of her upbringing in a family where intergenerational gatherings were the heart of the family. You are an essential part of our team, Rosemary, and we're so lucky to have you!
Rosemary earned a Ph.D. from Northeastern University with a focus on elder care law and policy. She has been published internationally on the topic of avoidable hospitalizations of nursing home residents. Select research-related experiences include examining business models, economic drivers, and quality indicators in the approach to the care of people in the home setting as part of HCCI’s Home-Based Primary Care course curriculum, being selected as a panel member presenting “Moving & Scaling Home-Based Primary Care” at a GIH National conference, and having served on the Advisory Board for the NIH-funded “Home-Based Primary Care for Homebound Seniors Trial” at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai NY.
She is a risk management executive and principal of MRM, Inc. of Boston, a consulting firm specializing in risk and insurance management, alternative risk financing, self-insurance, reinsurance, captives, and other risk financing models.

#digitaldividendsday Staying connected to family and friends is essential for everyone, regardless of age! And this is one of the many benefits of our Digital Dividends program.
Thanks to our community partners Boston Housing Authority's Hassan Apartments, Ethos and Age Strong, we practiced sending and replying to each others' emails in class. And now Donna can email her son in Haiti! We also learned how to clean up our inboxes by deleting emails!

We are busy creating beautiful pieces of art at community partner Retirement Housing Foundation Symphony Plaza East! One of our older adult participants even painted two gorgeous prints (top left) that we will be auctioning off at our LBFE Boston | Friends on the Harbor Annual Gala!
