Peterborough Senior Center (Tech Cafe), CitySites Highlight

At Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly, we have a Highlight of the Week series where we shine a spotlight on members of the LBFE community including board members, older adults, volunteers, students, staff, CitySites (and more!) to learn about them and their experiences with LBFE. This week’s highlight is of one of our popular CitySites, Peterborough Senior Center where we hold weekly Tech Café. Tech Cafés are opportunities for volunteers to answer questions about flip phones, smart phones, mobile devices and everything in between! Read below for a story one of our BU PULSE student volunteers, Jen Barker. shared with us about her experience there:

“During my first week at the Tech Café in Fenway I sat next to a woman who was sitting in a corner and just started chatting with her. She told me about how she was an immigrant, but she had come to the U.S. and had become a doctor and lived a great life. After telling her story she left without actually getting any technology help. While I loved chatting with her I felt bad that I hadn’t actually helped her. The next week when I showed up she was sitting at one of the community computers and looked at me and said, “Are you ready to actually help me?” I couldn’t help but laugh as I sat down next to her. I helped her sell some things on Craigslist and buy presents for her sister’s birthday. She continued to tell me her life story as I helped her work through technology problems, laughing the whole time.”

Remember to check out next week’s blog to see who will be highlighted then!
