Events Bridge Generations and Combat Social Isolation
Boston, MA — May 28, 2025 — LBFE Boston (Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly), in partnership with Title Sponsor AARP Massachusetts, is launching the 2025 Multigenerational Mixer Series—a citywide initiative to foster intergenerational connections and reduce social isolation among older adults.
These free community events will take place at senior centers and affordable senior housing sites across Boston, starting at East Boston Senior Center on Wednesday, June 4, from 1:00–2:30 PM. Additional mixers will follow on August 13 at Veronica Smith Senior Center in Brighton, and on October 23 at LGBTQ’s Senior Housing’s The Pryde Community Center in Hyde Park.
Each mixer will feature refreshments, music, games, and creative activities that encourage cross-generational conversation and getting to know your neighbors. The events will welcome older adults and college students who currently participate in LBFE Boston programs, neighbors, community partners, plus city officials and aging services professionals.
“Our Multigenerational Mixer Series is about building bridges,” said Cynthia Wilkerson, Executive Director of LBFE Boston. “We believe that every generation has something valuable to offer, and by creating spaces in public/affordable senior housing and senior centers where people can connect and share, we’re helping to build a more inclusive, compassionate city.”
Jen Benson, AARP Massachusetts State Director, added “At AARP, we know that strong communities are built on meaningful connections across generations. We are proud to support LBFE Boston’s Multigenerational Mixer Series because it brings people together, reduces isolation, and celebrates the wisdom and energy that every generation brings to the table.”
Since 1979, LBFE Boston has worked to decrease loneliness and social isolation among low-income older adults. Our current programs include intergenerational events, tech access and skills training, and creative arts classes.
