Generations United’s designation serves as the U.S. benchmark for high-quality intergenerational programs
BOSTON, Mass., Feb. 20, 2025 – LBFE Boston is proud to announce that its CitySites program has met the criteria to maintain its designation as an intergenerational Program of Distinction by Generations United. This recognition serves as the U.S. benchmark for intergenerational programs and is based on the criteria that underpin the effectiveness of high-quality intergenerational programs.
LBFE Boston is unwavering in our commitment to fostering meaningful connections between generations as an essential approach to relieving isolation and loneliness for both older and younger adults. Since 2015, through CitySites’ partnerships with service-learning and community engagement programs at several Boston colleges and universities, LBFE Boston has offered weekly social activities that have connected hundreds of older and younger participants, speaking as many as nine languages/dialects, each year at more than thirty low-income senior housing buildings and senior centers across the city.
“We are so excited and honored to be recognized again for our continued leadership developing inclusive and engaging intergenerational programs around the City of Boston,” said Stephenie Hisman-Hou, Program Director of LBFE Boston. CitySites create safe spaces where older adults and young volunteers can engage in mutually beneficial shared experiences, learning, and companionship. “The renewal of LBFE Boston’s certification as a Program of Distinction is a testament to its success as an asset-based, multilingual, and community-centered approach to intergenerational programs and connections,” concluded Hisman-Hou.
