Ryan McTigue, BC PULSE Student Volunteer

At Little Brothers- Friends of the Elderly, we have a Highlight of the Week series where we shine a spotlight on members of the LBFE community including board members, older adults, volunteers, students, staff, CitySites (and more!) to learn about them and their experiences with LBFE. This week’s highlight is of one of our new Boston College PULSE student volunteers, Ryan McTigue! Read below to learn more about Ryan:

I am a 20-year-old sophomore at Boston College studying Finance and Accounting. I am originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and have an older brother and a younger sister. I love participating in and watching all types of sports as I played football, basketball and lacrosse in high school. At Boston College, I am apart of the AHANA Management Academy where I am the Co-Director of the Freshman Development Program. I also work in the Office of Student Involvement as an Excel Coach where I oversee all the clubs and organizations at Boston College.  I am volunteering through Boston College’s PULSE Program which is a dual philosophy and theology course combining service work and classroom learning. I chose to work at LBFE because I wanted to be able to have the opportunity to meet different people from different backgrounds outside of my college campus. During my time at LBFE, I hope I can make a positive impact by meeting and collaborating with people who I wouldn’t normally have been able to speak with. I am an energetic, creative individual who loves to do activities ranging from simple group discussions to Trivial Pursuit board games. While at LBFE, I wish to be able to improve upon my communication skills while also gain a better perspective on elders from different parts of the Boston area and world. I am definitely most excited for being able to plan and execute different activities at my CitySite for this upcoming year. I am really big into celebrating holidays and love doing different themes for the different times of the year. Being able to participate in the 1-1 placement is also another aspect of LBFE that I am super excited about. Growing up without my grandpas and recently having both my grandmas pass away has really put into perspective the importance of being able to spend time with elders and the impact they can have on my life.

Remember to check out next week’s blog to see who will be highlighted then!
