Julia Waldron, Simmons University Team Leader

I am a 21-year-old student originally from Cheshire Connecticut. I attend Simmons University am a third-year social work major. The Bachelor of Social Work program at Simmons University includes a field placement in both junior and senior years. This is designed to give us experience in the field before we enter the workforce. For the past five years, I have worked with elementary school-aged children as both a tutor and a camp counselor. At Simmons, I am the President of the a cappella group, The Sirens, and am the treasurer of an organization called Girl Up. In my free time, I also enjoy going out and exploring Boston! I chose to serve with LBFE because I wanted to get experience working with an elderly population as I have only worked with a youth population. Ending elderly isolation is something I think is very important and I would like to be part of this mission. During my time at LBFE, I will be working with my classmate Zoe Gruskay to set up a new program location in Boston. I would like to incorporate music into the programs I am leading on because it is something I am very passionate about. Music is not defined by one generation and I would like to learn about it from the elders at our programs and share what music means to me as well. I am looking forward to working with my classmate, the staff at LBFE, and the elders who attend programs! Overall, I am an outgoing individual with a passion for learning and this will be something I am bringing to LBFE. I hope to gain both knowledge and experience working with elders through LBFE to carry into my future practice as a social worker!

Don’t forget to check out next week’s blog to see who will be highlighted then!
