Sam Wasserman, Northeastern NU ACES Team Leader

Hi! My name is Samantha Wasserman, and I’m so excited to be working with Little Brothers this year! I am currently a first-year student at Northeastern University. I’m a health science major, and I hope to one day be able to go to medical school where I can help as many people as possible. I’m originally from Spotswood New Jersey, a tiny town in Central Jersey. I’m really happy about getting to live in Boston and experience life in a big city! It is amazing getting to meet so many new people from a variety of different backgrounds. I am really thankful that I get to go to school here!

I am part of the NU|ACES program, and I’m so glad that I was placed in my first-choice partner of Little Brothers! Given what I want to do in the future, I want to be able to work with as many different types of people as I can to gain experience in a variety of areas. I have worked as a camp counselor with kids for the past 3 summers, so I wanted to be able to experience what it was like to work with people of a different age group! I liked how LBFE really emphasized the importance of creating a relationship and bonding with the people you’re working with, which I thought was really something special that isn’t common with other volunteer activities!

Although I haven’t worked with people of this age group before, I am so excited about doing so. I feel as if I am very open-minded and optimistic going into this whole experience, so I hope that will make up for my lack of experience. I am most looking forward to cultivating relationships with the people that I work with, ones where I can help others in any way that they need, and where I personally am able to learn a lot! I am really looking forward to hearing people’s stories and just about their lives in general, I know that I have a lot to learn and will be able to take away a lot from this experience. I just hope that I can give as much to those I work with as much as I know I am going to get from them!

Don’t forget to check out next week’s blog to see who will be highlighted then!
