Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly is very excited to introduce you to two new members of our team here at The Guerin House: Ruben and Benita. Ruben is our Program Assistant and will be working both in the field visiting elders, and in the office helping the programming team. He comes from World Horizons (same organization and Wencke and Lutz last year) and will be with us for a year. Benita is working as a research assistant in partnership with the Age Friendly initiative headed up by the Elderly Commission. She will be conducting surveys with our elderly friends to ensure that they have the opportunity to voice their opinions as to what would make Boston a more age friendly city.
If you see either Ruben or Benita be sure to give them a warm Little Brothers welcome. We are thrilled to have them on board. Please read their introductions below:
Hi,
I am Benita, 22 years old from Berlin, Germany. After I finished High school, I decided that I would like to work with elderly people. To my mind they represent a group in our societies that deserve all our respect and care. Therefore, I left my beloved hometown started studying Gerontology at the University of Vechta, which is in the northern part of Germany, and I am currently in my third and final year.
I love to travel, meet new people and experience different cultures. Besides that, I like to meet my friends, go to movies and musicals or just read a good book with an even better cup of coffee.
I wanted to do something meaningful during my summer break and luckily I came across Little Brothers! I am only going to stay for 2 months but I hope that I can make the most of this short time. I am looking forward to meet as many of you as I possibly can!
Cheers, Benita.
Hi,
I am Ruben, 19 years old, and come from Germany. During my voluntary service year I will work as a Program Assistant at Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly. My tasks will be to visit our old friends all around Boston as well as organizing and running events for Little Brothers.
In my spare time I like to play sports (soccer, tennis, table tennis and soccer referee), listen to music, read books and meet up with friends.
I am amazed by the opportunity to spend one year together with our elders here in Boston and to do something that truly matters, especially in the fast and sometimes rough times of today.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during my voluntary service year and make it a memorable one for everybody.
Best wishes,
Ruben Manuschewski
